In most Apps (Office, OpenOffice etc.), an opened file Saved As becomes the Saved As file, e.g. Meeting 1.doc when Saved As Meeting 2.doc keeps the latter file open.
I've just done this in PDF-XChange Viewer and it kept the original PDF open - and I didn't notice!
Fortunately it was only a form, so was just filled in and not edited, so simply changing the names of the forms was simple. Had it been more complex it might have taken more work.
Is there any reason for this way of doing things?
Generally, I'll keep a blank or partly-completed form, open it, Save As the name that I want for the fully completed form and finish it, so I want the Saved As version open, not the basic one.

Hi Giraffe,
I can say that is does change to the new file here for me.
Can you please make sure that you are running the latest build of the Viewer (2.0.50).
Cheers,
Stefan

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
Hi Giraffe,
For documents where there is a Title atribute in them we display that instead of the file name, so when you do a "Save As" the title remains unchanged. Please do a simple test - open one file where the "name" is not changed, add an annotation and "Save As" at a different place.
Then close the file and see that you will have the original without the annotation and the new copy in the "Save As" directory with the annotation.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
Yes, that works OK but it's not what I'm trying to do.
I have, say, a partly filled form (with generic data), open it, Save As a form for a specific purpose with a title that reflects that purpose.
At this point I want to complete the form with specific data. In Word, Excel, Calc etc., after Save As the open form is the new one; with a PDF it's the old one, so I have to close the generic one and open the specific one - a bit clumsy.

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
On the "Initial View" of Document Properties windows (press Ctrl + D, or use File -> Document Properties... menu) there is option "Show in Title" which defines what should be shown into application title - file name or document's title.

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
That doesn't really help. When I Save As, I change the File Name to reflect the new purpose so, if the new file is open then the new File Name should be shown.
It's just a bit long-winded to Save As, then go to the new file and open it. In Word etc. the new file is the one open after Save As.

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
Sorry, looks like I misunderstood you, but this is TRUE for the viewer too - we are the same as MS Word - . In the viewer, when you use:Giraffe wrote:In Word etc. the new file is the one open after Save As.
1) File -> Save -- file is saved using the same name (if file was new created, for example from RTF, or images) this command works like "Save As"
2) File -> Save As -- you will be asked about new file name for your file, file will be saved, and viewer will 'switch' to use this file, not original one
3) File -> Save Copy As -- you will be asked about new file name for your file, file will be saved, but viewer will continue to use original file

Re: Unexpected/unusual 'Save AS' behaviour
Aaaarghhh!!
Apologies - I'm used to having a Save As icon next to the Save icon (I usually make an icon or modify one if there's not a standard one), so just quickly clicked on the Save Copy As assuming that it was Save As (the Tool Tip didn't have time to appear).
My fault, sorry.
Thanks Ivan.
