printing in booklet form

Post by redlinetex »

Using an HP LaserJet 2055d with the drivers from a LaserJet 2015 and Windows 7, I have tried to print PDF documents (manuals) in booklet form. Although the preview screen in PDF-XChange Viewer shows the layout correctly, it is not printed the right way. For example, instead of having just 2 pages on the printed sheet, the sheet contains 4 pages, 2 in the upper half of the sheet and 2 in the lower half. Also, the pages on the opposite side of the sheet are printed upside down. I have discussed this issue with HP's tech support, who insist that the problem is with PDF-XChange Viewer. Inasmuch as I had the same problem when I used Adobe Reader, I suspect that it has something to do with the printer's drivers, but HP will not acknowledge that possibility. Does anyone have any ideas about what can be causing this problem if it is not the drivers?

hi redlinetex

does it also happen from applications other than PDF-XChange and Adobe Reader? What about Word or others?
Best regards

Actually, I resolved the issue after I posted the question. It turned out that all I had to do was to uninstall the printer, thereby getting rid of both the original drivers for the 2055 and the 2015, which HP's tech support had me download and install. Then I rebooted my computer, allowing Windows 7 to reinstall the drivers automatically. After that, the pages from my manual were printed correctly. Unfortunately, I still experience the same problem if I try to print in booklet form using my other printer, HP Color LaserJet 2605dn. I guess there is an issue with the drivers that Windows 7 installs for that printer.

Since you mentioned it, I never had that problem when using Microsoft Word, but then I wasn't working with PDF documents.

Thanks for the reply,

Juris

Hi Juris,

Pleased you managed some sort of a resolution and thanks for coming back - fingers crossed the other proves to be of a similar nature ....
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

I guess I spoke too soon. Yesterday I had to uninstall and later reinstall all of the printers I have so I could install the Windows 7-compatible software for my HP Photosmart all-in-one. Otherwise, I get getting an error while trying to install that software. Now I am again unable to print correctly in booklet form. So, it looks like it's back to the "drawing board" for me! I can't get any help from HP. They just keep telling me it is an application issue, but I doubt that since I have tried 3 different PDF readers.
