will PDFXV support the plug-ins of adobe acrobat reader?

Post by KingMario »

we are using a doc-safe software internally which installs a plug-in to adobe acrobat reader.
if PDFXV can support adobe acrobat reader plug-ins, i'll totally uninstall adobe acrobat reader and turn to PDFXV.

Hi,

At this moment I am afraid not - but as from Version 3 later this summer Plugin support will be supported in most circumstances - there will be some exclusions which I am not able to elaborate fully on at this moment.

We will also be introducing a host of new features - many of which will be enabled via plugins of our own and progressively 3rd parties too.

Hope that helps

Hello bvn,

Viewer 2011 - as it is now going to be named (changed from ver3), is indeed delayed past our initial expectations, but we are now almost ready to present a feature list and very soon a time frame when we do expect it to be ready.

Apologies for the delay but we would rather have it stuffed with new features and ensure that all is functioning correctly before releasing a new Major version rather than releasing it prematurely.

Best,
Stefan

Thank you Stef for the reply.
Will existing Adobe plugins will be reusible with PDFXV?
If not, how have to re-write the plugin?

In my case, it is for use with 3DVIA Composer (from Dassault Systems).
There are two files : 3DVIAPlayerReader.API and 3DVIAPlayerControl.dll

Hello bvn,

At first not all plug-ins that are currently available in Adobe might be supported, but we are working on this, and will gradually introduce more and more of them, and some unique to our own Viewer as well.

Best,
Stefan

One additional 'Caveat' here - it will require the co-operation of the Plugin authors to make this possible and of course if they choose not to make their Plugin available for use with the PDF-XChange Viewer - despite our best efforts to facilitate this - we will not be in a position to force this, so you should be aware of this.

If you need to be in touch with the author of 3DVIA Composer/Playser please let me know.

Thanks we will indeed - nearer the release date of our toolkit for Plugins for the new Viewer we will contact numerous developer's already using our PDF-XChange Viewer SDK toolkit in several 1000 end user applications and indeed all Adobe Plugin Authors and make them aware of the opportunity and invite them to make their products and services available in the PDF-XChange Viewer as Plugins, as appropriate.

We see this as a huge mutual opportunity to extend their own products and ours and are very excited at the prospect.
