Next Release / Features

Post by ashley3289 »

Can you provide me with a date when you will have the next release of the ActiveX viewer? Also can you provide me with a list of features that will be in this release?

I am looking for the following:
1. Registration-Free Com so you do not have to register the exe and dll
2. Programmatically control the toolbars
3. Adding custom buttons to toolbars
4. Adding a custom tab and pane to where thumbnails and comments are displayed.

Thanks,
Ashley

The features you require will need Version 3.x released later this summer I am afraid, no specific date is yet available.

Thanks for your patience.

Can you check your development schedule and check to see if the following items will be in the next release. I am trying to make a descion on which software component to purchase and if these features will be available later this summer then I will go ahead and purchase the PDF-XChange PRO SDK. I just need to make sure that these features will be in the next release.

1. Registration-Free Com so you do not have to register the exe and dll
2. Programmatically control the toolbars
3. Adding custom buttons to toolbars
4. Adding a custom tab and pane to where thumbnails and comments are displayed.

Thanks,
Ashley

John,

I'm just thinking of purchasing the Viewer ActiveX SDK as I've been testing it out for a project. I'm seeing that V3 will be coming out and was wondering if that is a free upgrade to V2 users (if we're within out upgrade period)? Just wondering since it seems it will be a major new release from v2 to v3 rather than a minor build like v2.x.

Thank you very much! Your support here on the forums appears to be excellent!

Hi nlopes,

the initial purchase of the SDK will give you 12 months upgrades - a purchase now does include the major version upgrade to v.3 when it is released.

You can continue to get updates - again even major versions beyond the 12 months by purchasing maintenance on your product. All is explained here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/annual_ ... tions.html

Thank you Paul. I saw the extended upgrade options and will definitely recommend to my client that we purchase this when I place the order.

Thanks again,

Hello Ashley,

Ver3 will be early in 2011, but before that we are preparing an intermediate version 2.5 which will bring full XFA support and is expected by the end of the month.

for whatever it is worth and i don't mean to stick my neck where it is non on my business but you are NOT GOING TO GET A BETTER PRODUCT THEN THIS ONE

we have tested at least 6-8 other SDK and are using another product that does not come anywhere near the product these guys are selling

so my money is to wait what it takes otherwise as we have found out we are redoing 3 months of development to now use this product as the other product has given us all sort of problems especially adobe compatibility when it comes to using forms and javascript.

PS - i don't work nor am I employed by tracker-software. this is the best PDF suite i have come across and is far more compatible with adobe forms especially javascript that i have come across

great work guys

Many thanks for the kind words joeitaliano!

And Dorwol, while yes we have delayed ver3 quite some after our initial expectations, we keep adding new features in the current version and 2.5 has brought XFA support, and some of the things that last summer were planned for ver3 have already found their place in the current version. Yes it is taking us some time to get there but we do not want to rush it and release an incomplete product.

I hope you will understand and we do appreciate your patience!

Best,
Stefan
Tracker

p.s. Now the latest estimates are that ver3 would be released early in Q2 of 2011.

No problem. It was only a question. I only asked because I would like to include it in my development plans.

Hi again ammine007,

same answer as you other thread: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =35&t=7821
we are expecting to have a 'road map' for V3 in place within the next 7 days where we can make a commitment to the general list of features for V3.

More info on delivery dates and features will also be published in the next 7 days.

Thanks a lot to let us sharing your revue of the next so nice version...

One question that is very important for my business: Do you will support the pen writing on tablet pc (like pdfannatotar)? It's a market growing very fast and need to support it as the free text is not sufficient to write on a pdf with a minimum of quality....

Hello hbouzagl,

Yes there are plans to improve the way the handwriting tool works, and implement algorithms which will result in much more crisp result.
There are some limitation imposed by the PDF Specification, but rest assured we will do our best in the handwriting field!

OCR will be included when ready as a Plugin for end users - not a standard feature - later this year we also hope to release an OCR SDK and we will release cost and licensing info nearer its release date.

The Library will recognise 'Roman' characters so German would be recognised and the Spellchecker by default used is 'Hunspell' and a German Dictionary is therefore available.

However I would caution in regards the quality of the first releases - we have been working on the OCR library for around 6 years already and only just now have we released a beta SDK for internal testing - I do not expect an 'industrial' strength product at the outset - rather something that would be good for selecting area's of a document to recognise and convert - for example invoice numers, dates, page numbers, addresses etc.

Over the coming 1-2 years we hope this will develop into a much more robust and flexible product - but it will take some time and some 'real' world feedback to get it to this point.

Pleasure - and of course it could surprise us all and be beter than we all hope from the outset -but always best to 'temper' our expectations and then nobody will be dissapointed - the only way then is 'up' as it were :)

Hello hbouzagl,

I do not have any specific technical information on this, but as far as I am aware the guys in development are working on much improved algorithms with a lot more points and better curves description, so that the smoothing that you see in the current versions of the Viewer will be greatly reduced, but as I said I do not have any more technical details that that.

It will be improved, but how much and how customizable the handwriting tool will be is yet to be seen.

Best,
Stefan
