Does PDF Xchange viewer have a PDF management/library capability? Something like Benubird PDF but with previews? It seems like it already has the capacity to display previews and summaries. Why not add a library function?

PDF Management/Library tool
I was just looking at the preview feature of PDF XChange viewer - it shows you a PDF summary and snapshot as you select a PDF to open from a folder.

Hi sonicwaves
are you referring to the "Collections" they talk about on their web page? I can't find any reference to "Libraries" but I think this is what you mean. It appears to me that what it is doing is cataloging all PDF files on the system and presenting them to you in a single interface much the way many media players do with music/video or Picassa does with Photos.
Do I have that right? Is that what you are requesting?
Sincerely

Yes, that is exactly what I think PDF XChange viewer can accomplish and in a much better way than Benubird or any other software. Do you think this is a possibility? Probably add this feature in the paid version, if not the free one?Paul - Tracker Supp wrote: cataloging all PDF files on the system and presenting them to you in a single interface much the way many media players do with music/video or Picassa does with Photos.

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
Thanks for clarifying this sonicwaves,
This is certainly an interesting idea and I have proposed it to the development team, perhaps this might best be done as a plugin in v.3 when it is ready.
I find that applications that 'manage' your files for you have mixed reactions form users, some hate it others love it and this is exactly what makes it an ideal candidate for a plugin.
I'd be interested to hear from other users on this forum about their opinions on such a feature.
sincerely

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
I guess that an application for file management have to import files in a database to be efficient in manging them. I have never used Benubird but I am pretty sure that it imports files in a database. Another great app for file management (and more) is Evernote which also imports all files into a database.
Acrobat does not import files into a database and, I guess, that is a reason why that feature is so slow so nobody uses it.
There is a great file management app that does not import files into a database, TaggTool (www.taggtool.com) but you have to add links to files which you want to manage.
Having said that, I think that adding such a feature to the Viewer is not feasible. Is is probably worth exploring development of plug-ins for better integration of the Viewer with popular existing file management solutions such as Evernote.... For example, you could add to "Send to Evernote" to the File menu, send highlighted text to Evernote. Such options would certainly be highly valuable to many of your customers...

Hi amer
thanks for the input, most appreciated, your points about performance and the suggestion to consider integration with other tools especially.

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
Evernote just announced that Nitro PDF Reader offers the integration with Evernote... this is from their blogcast: "Evernote now has PDF annotation. PDFpen by SmileOnMyMac and Nitro PDF Reader allow you to annotate your PDF and then send them into Evernote for safekeeping. This is particularly great for signing and saving digital contracts", which you can find here: http://blog.evernote.com/2010/07/14/the-evernote-trunk/
This is what Nitro guys say: "Fill, sign, and save PDF forms, stamp signatures, extract text and images, and type text directly onto the page. Then, when you're done, easily save PDF files into your Evernote account by simply selecting the Send to Evernote option from the File menu or from context menus that allow you to select and save specific text and images directly into your Evernote account."
It was just released, I swear I did not have insider info
I hope it will not take long until PDF-XChange Viewer offers similar functionality and even tighter integration with Evernote and other popular apps...

thats very interesting to see. I don't know that this means we will be devoting resources to such an endeavour at this point in time but I do appreciate hearing your thoughts and requests very often do become features....

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
Hmmm... I think power PDF users (eg. academics) would find a conventional library function (but for your digital journal-articles and books) very useful. Integrating with Evernote is fine and all, but I would rather that I didn't have to download and use yet another piece of software simply for cataloging and ordering my PDF collection.Paul - Tracker Supp wrote: I find that applications that 'manage' your files for you have mixed reactions form users, some hate it others love it and this is exactly what makes it an ideal candidate for a plugin.
What I want from a PDF library is exactly what a media library does - display the title, allow me to tag the title, create collections and organize my titles so that I can find them easily. PDF Xchange has a pretty good preview and visualization (when you navigate to open a file). I thought it might be easier to implement the library function over the already built-in preview features of PDF Xchange viewer. I don't see why this is not a feasible idea for PDF XChange. Relying on 3rd party integration seems like a rough way to navigate.

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
I would love to have some kind of library/collection/organizational functionality also, whether as a plug-in or not doesn't matter to me. Right now I have about 30 of the most important things pinned to the recently viewed list, and it's far from ideal. My "library" consists of dozens of select documents from among thousands at my company, so I'd like to select my own "favorites" and organize them as I see fit.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I've added a feature request based on this topic. It will be a long term thing, maybe a plugin, nothing we can currently be committed to but by making this a formal feature request it puts it on the dev team's radar...

Re: PDF Management/Library tool
I am an academic using pdfs all the time. I have organized all of my pdfs (thousands of them) within an index created in My Notes Keeper (where I keep hyperlinks to my pdfs which then open in PDFXchange). Great stuff! Highly recommended. I often use the function of PDFXchange where you can put the filename and path in the clipboard as I can then paste it as a hyperlink in MNK. Very handy.
