Open multiple file in a folder

Post by rooster »

I would like to open multiple files in a folder so that I can scroll through them without opening each
one indiviually. How can I do this? The response (below) would work I'm sure but if you have 100+
pages (files) in a folder this is cumbersom. Is there not a way to open all files in a folder with 1 click
or to link all the files so that you can scroll thru them?

Drag and drop them from Windows Explorer into PDF-XChange.

Hi rooster,

this is not PDF-XChange functionality but if you use CTRL+A you can select all files in a folder. You could then send it to the Viewer by right click or drag and drop.

Do be aware please that opening hundreds of files simultaneously will have an effect on system performance, especially if the files are not small...

I open lots of files all the time - this is one of the areas where PDF xchange is WAY better than Acrobat. It's still amazingly fast with lots of files.

Foxit Reader is widely assumed to be fast to open documents, but in my simple test of opening 46 files totally 81 Mbytes, they took about 13 seconds to open in PDF-XChange and 15 seconds to open in Foxit Reader.

One would need to do quite exhaustive tests to prove which was really faster, as file loading speed depends on many factors. However, both do seem to be much faster than Adobe Reader 9.3.3, which took over 90 seconds to open the same 46 documents in 46 separate instances, although I dragged them into a blank Adobe Reader window.

Closing Adobe Reader with the exit command also took a long time, but it was instant for both PDF-XChange and Foxit Reader. Adobe Reader froze with three instances remaining open and the task manager stuck on 98% cpu. I had to end the Adobe Reader process.

I searched in preferences, but could find no option to open all documents in one instance.
