Hi,
Sorry, I can't find the answer to this anywhere.
I've downloaded the help doc and searched the forum.
XChange Viewer (free) has a disabled 'pro' menu item:
file -> new document -> from blank page
After upgrading the viewer to 'pro':
· Does the viewer itself create the new pdf file, or would I still need one of the pdf tools/driver packages?
· Does the new file have any limitations, such as trial watermarks, fixed security settings, or any other quirks? I ask this, because this feature is obviously beyond 'viewing' and crosses over into the realm of what the other x-change packages provide, so I am thinking that creating new pdf files is limited in some way?
· The viewer doesn't seem to have any text tools as such, only commenting. Does that mean after creating a blank pdf file, I would use the commenting tools to make the document and then 'flatten' the comments to finalise the document?
Cheers.
Oh, and by the way - thank you so much for allowing people to get rid of that Adobe junk.

Re: create your own files?
Hello Anti,
If you go to Edit -> Preferences -> Registration and uncheck the "Hide protected Pro features", you would be able to test the File -> New document commands.
The "limitation" is that the file created would be empty, or created from images.
The viewer on it's own will not "print" from e.g. MS Word to PDF, but you could make a new empty file, scan printed pages and make a PDF out of them, use images from your computer, or text and Rich text documents.

- Yes it creates it on it's own.

- It will have "DEMO" stamps only if you are using the Free viewer - no such stamps would be added if you have a license. There are no other security limitations.
· The viewer doesn't seem to have any text tools as such, only commenting. Does that mean after creating a blank pdf file, I would use the commenting tools to make the document and then 'flatten' the comments to finalise the document?
- Yes there are tools like the Text Area which you can use to add your text to the page, and then flatten it to make it unmovable.
Best,
Stefan

Re: create your own files?
Thanks for your reply.
Am I correct in saying that 'viewer pro' is actually the main 'editing' software in the series?
In other words, there are no 'text insert' or 'text deletion' tools in your products, only the commenting tools?
I do love this software! How can it be *so* much better than the alternatives?
The difference in speed, functionality, ease of use, and stability is staggering.
And the search pane is genius - the best document search I've ever seen.
Cheers.

Re: create your own files?
Hello Anti,
And first let me thank you for the kind words.
They do warm our hearts!
As for which is the main editing software in our arsenal - I would say that there is a parity between the Tools and the Viewer, the Tools offering some multi file manipulations that are not available in the Viewer, and the Viewer offering more single file tools that are more visually oriented.
There is no direct text editing in our Viewer yet, but we are working on such tools for V3 of our Viewer (currently in development).
You should still not expect it to be the MS Word equivalent on the PDF filed though.
Best,
Stefan

I know. It's just sometimes nice to be able to insert an extra word or two in a sentence, correct a typo, or update a date or price without having to get hold of the original source doc. The existing 'editors' aren't very good at editing anyway (Adobe Pro is terrible), so it's not a big deal considering x-change does everything else so well.
OK, thanks very much for answering my questions!
Cheers!

It is my pleasure to answer your questions!
And yes, such minor changes would be possible for sure.
Cheers,
Stefan
