Document security and restrictions NOT set

Post by BCH »

I found that the documents security and restriction options are not applied to a document at all. Re-opening the document in the Xchange viewer or Adobe Reader does not accept any restrictive policies. I did save the document after applying the changes. Date and time did changes etc. To me this is a very serious error especially as there is no visual indication what so ever no security was applied.

Respectfully - you really should make such comments without ascribing such absolute comfirmation to them.

Thanks for the info - but its the actual PDF file we need - or another created if its sensitive/confindential - using the same settings.

I suspect you have failed to set a password with the correct permissions for the option ' Require a password to change permissions for the document'

I have just tested myself here using the latest release - and provided the required security settings are ascribed - PDF-XChange does respect the authors intended setup.

Once we have a file that you believe fails to support the intended use - we can comment.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards

Please find attached an example of a PDF document initially created through MS Powerpoint and then resaved with additional security settings using PDF-XChange Viewer. Please also find the PDF with on the first page a screenshot of the security settings as I set them WITH a password. I did explicitly SAVE the document after making these settings. Also see a screenshot of the apparent security settings as displayed on re-opening in PDF-XChange Viewer (page 3) and Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1 (page 2).

Please take no-offense and note that I am absolutely not here to bash PDF-XChange Viewer or on this forum to make unsupported claims. I did test not even twice but even tree times even with seperate files before making such a bold claim even the first time. I am a big fan and even get out here to help you making your product potentially a better one.

On a side note I just upgraded to version 2.0 build 56 but I get exactly the same behaviour.

Hi BCH,

please take a look at this article: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... dits-to-it it explains in detail how to set these permissions.

I also tried setting security on this document using the same methods you described and it worked so perhaps there is something specific to your set up we need to investigate.

See the attached. In secure.pdf the open document password is opensesame and the password for both to change rights is opensesame2

I am not sure why you are not seeing this. I see that you were using build 55, can you please update to the latest build? (2.056) http://www.docu-track.com/knowledgebase ... nt-version and I'll look into what we can do to ascertain why you are seeing this.

Same behaviour on 2.056. Same behaviour on my netbook. Which has a Dutch language setting. Very very weird.

OK - thanks for that. I've created a Support Request Ticket to track the issue and we will investigate.

Reference ticket : RT#537: Document security and restrictions NOT set

I'll post here what we find.

:-)

Hi BCH,

after some investigations the team have not been able to reproduce the issue. Can I ask you for details on the steps required to recreate this? Screen shots http://www.docu-track.com/knowledgebase ... to-support and a point by point description are most helpful. If you could put it all in a PDF and post it we will try again to recreate the issue.
