PDFXV file with annot behaves differently than other sources

Post by maccoski »

We are creating pdf files with the AutoCAD 2010 built-in driver. We have an "ad-hoc" method for printing these files from our "legacy database" which applies a printer overlay watermark. This "ad-hoc" method works without fail until we add an annotation to the pdf file using PDF Xchange and save the pdf file. Once an annotation is added an the pdf saved with PDFXV, the file will no longer print with the "ad-hoc" method. We are able to add annotations to the pdf with another viewer called "eCopy Desktop". Files with annotations added and saved with "eCopy Desktop" print with our "ad-hoc" method. (However, the annotations don't print with the eCopy method but at least the file does print.)

(Incidentally, we also experience this problem when we used PDFXV to combine multiple pdf drawings into one pdf file with multiple sheets. I can create an example of this if you would like.)

We are currently looking for alternate methods for printing pdf files (and the added annotations) from our database but that is a separate issue. I have attached a zip file that contains three pdf files. They are named "D0001_1 (Original).pdf", "D0001_1 (eCopy Annotate).pdf" and "D0001_1 (PDFXV Annotate).pdf". The first two files print with our "ad-hoc" method. The first file is created directly from AutoCAD. The second two files were opened in their respective software, annotated and saved.

Keeping the "ad-hoc" method aside, there must be some difference in file structure between these three methods. Is there a way that you can compare the three files and isolate what the possible differences are? Is there a way to make PDFXV create the same output when saving? Are any of these files "formed" more correctly than the others?

These are really a curiostity questions for posterity sake and does not factor greatly into our daily workflow.

Hello maccoski,

We will check those files and see why this is happening and what can be done.
I will update this topic as new information becomes available.

Best,

Hi, maccoski.

1. You cannot print the whole file which annotated by PXCV?
or
2. You can print this file but it prints without your annotations?

If 2. please enable one additional option before printing by:

Code: Select all

ctrl.SetProperty("Print.NotesAndPopups", "true", 0);
If 1. what is the "ad-hoc" method? Details please.

You are printing the modified pdf by our Viewer ActiveX control or our end user release ?
