how to blacken? [newbie question]

Post by BAG »

Hello,

I would like to blacken some areas ("text") in a pdf-document.
I choose the "rectangle tool" with "Opacity" 100% and "Blend mode" "Color" [btw: what is the difference to "Hue"?]
Then I "print" it into a (new) PDF-document with FreePDF (or PDFCreator).
Now I cannot see the text "below" the rectangle.

Can the "text" really not be recovered?

Sincerely --- Uli

P.S: Maybe, there are better (free) tools to blacken ;-)

Hello BAG,

I believe this gives a good description of the different blend modes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blend_modes

As for why you are not able to see the text is because those blending modes can not be passed to the printer.
The only solution is to "print as image" - so the blending would be applied before sending the image to the printer, but this will also result in you loosing all the text in the file.

As for darkening text - for the moment there are no direct tools available in our Viewer that will allow you to manipulate existing base text, but we are working on ver3 of our Viewer which should bring text editing capabilities - it is expected early in the new year.

Best,
Stefan

This will not help you with seeing the txt in the new document but an easier way to blacken text is to use the highlight tool and set the color to Black. Only problem is with some fonts the highlight tools overlaps the next line of text a little.
