how to insert pages with text ?

Post by PamET »

I'm collating a large document from several smaller ones, using the PDF Tools. I've added some break pages (blank) to divide sections, with the Viewer, I would also like to add pages with chapter headings, etc. When I write up a page in Open Office, I haven't been able to convert it to pdf with the Tools...I've tried .opt, .doc. html....no luck so far. I could print it, and scan into the Tools, but that seems very awkward, and, I'm sure, unnecessary.

When I read the manual, and on the forum it seems I might want the Bookmarks for this ?? I can't seem to get my head around their use. ....I tried "outline" instead of 'Bookmark", but that doesn't help....

While I'm here, could you also tell me how I can "lock" my pages so the reader can't make changes.

It's taking me a while, but I'm working my way around the programs, and getting much out of them. (I have the Pro version )

Thanks for your help, Pam

Hello Pam,

To convert the OO files to PDF, you could use our PDF XChange Printing Driver (part of the Pro package) - so the "printout" would be directly a PDF document.

Then if you have made the correct settings and this PDF has bookmarks in it you might want to use the tools to merge it (and preserve the bookmarks) or simply open this file in the Viewer, and drag and drop the rest of the pages in it.

As for locking - you could place security restrictions on your documents:
In the Viewer go to File -> Document Properties -> Security...

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan;
One again, thank you. I didn't even think of the print option, though I use it extensively for web pages, etc.

I tried it out, and worked well !

I also tried out the Security option, I think I checked what I need, basically not letting changing the the document, tho can make comments, and the ability to open, and print for readers.

Is there a FAQ in the forum that explains the bookmarks ? I just don't seem to be getting my head around them, and sure would like to !

Thanks again for your help, Pam

Hello Pam,

I am afraid that there is no such FAQ.

But bookmarks are used to provide a navigation tree for people that would be reading your document after you.
If you have any particular questions - do not hesitate to ask them here and we would start building the FAQ with you ;)

Best,
Stefan
