With the licensed Viewer, "Viewer Pro", you can add page numbers and hide old page number using the text box tool, once satisfied with the page numbering use Comments->Flatten Comments to push the new page numbers into the base content of teh document.

If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. I Have the PDF-XChange 4 Pro...in the Viewer, I don't see a text box. In the Tools, I do see the Text Box to select and convert files to pdf. When I go into it, I don't see/understand how I can number pages. There is the Text file selection list with the set up, and add...
Where am I going wrong ?
what Chris is refering to is called the Text Box Tool in PDF -XChange Viewer and can be used to cover over the contents of PDF documents as per this article: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... F-document
If you have access to PDF-Tools as well then you might prefer to make use of the renumbering feature in there.

once again thanks for help...I read the Text box, re editing text in the page. If it's there I don't see specifically adding page number..I see that I could set an area to edit, add info
In the tools i see the same sort of thing, but I don't see the page numbers....
My document has over 400 pages, so I really don't want to number pages individually ....
I can do this manually, is there a way to it in a block of pages ?
Thanks again, I guess I need my hand held through this process !
It sounds to me like you want the page renumbering capabilities that PDF-Tools offers. It will allow you to automate the addtition of a number over the top of the current number. It has a lot of flexability and power over exactly where to place thew new number so as to be sure to cover the original numbers.
For the sake of this discussion we'll refer to the numbers that are printed on the page as 'Printed Page Numbers' and those that are used for navigation as 'Navigation Page Numbers'.
As I understand it the task here is to change the 'Printed Page Numbers' on a 400 page document, so...
1. Open PDF-Tools
2. Renumbering is available on the Advanced tab of most functions so it is not crucial here which option you start with. I typically use "Simple Optimization of PDFs" --> Start
3. Add the PDF file
4. Next --> Full Optimization - may as well Optimize the document at the same time.
5. This next screen , the "Setup PDF" screen is where your magic happens. Here you can choose the version of PDF compatibility to use, security and much more. Select the "Advanced" tab...
6. Check the box for "Page Re/numbering"
7. Click the "Setup" button - this is where you specify the details of exactly where your new page numbers will be printed. You can change the position, size, font etc to be sure that your new numbers will not only be printed on the page but will mask out the old numbers.
When you complete the process the 'Navigation Page Numbers' of the document will be used to generate and print the 'Printed Page Numbers'
