V359 How do I get test select to sensibly follow the on screen layout...

Post by chrisjj »

... when this drag
image.png
continued up in an attempt to include the rest of 1.6, in fact gives this:
image(1).png
Dragging instead from 1.6 start to end fails likewise.

Perhaps I need a command to correct the nonsensical internal reordering of the text items (which I see on Content), but I cannot find one.

Thanks.

Hello chrisjj,

Can we have a copy of the sample page you are working with?
Also - we are unable to fix issues in older builds, so please check and see if the same behaviour is present in build 371. If it is - we might look at improving/correcting it, but if it is already working differently - it seems like the issue was addressed, and we can not apply the same retrospectively to an older version.

Kind regards,
Stefan

If needed, but surely this is an issue you're already aware of? I have had this ever since I've been using PDFs.

I didn't ask for a fix.

Hello chrisjj,

In that case - thanks for the post, however you are still listing things that were present in build 359 - which is now quite older than the current version. Please consider reporting issues if they are current so that I can pass them to our devs for investigation!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Here, I'm seeking an answer, actually.

Any ideas?

Hi chrisjj,

What is your goal after being able to select the text + the field of the given paragraph ?
Do you want to make a copy ?

To me it seems to be possible to select both items while Edit > Text is active.

Kind regards.

Hello, All

The most likely cause of this issue is the content order. While the page may visually have an obvious reading order, the select text tool follows the "content" order. A common issue is in cases where you have titles that were made on the pages, followed by the headers/footers with page numbers, and then the body text after that. You can observe the content order and will likely see the same order as the content items are being selected, by opening the "content pane".

Hello, chrisjj

My apologies, with the discussion that went on, I thought the question here had transitioned to "why does this happen". To modify this, much like locating why it has happened, simply open the Content pane. then locate any out of place lines of text and drag/drop them into the correct order:

Thanks. I was hoping for automatic, but manual is welcome.

For next time, how is the user supposed to discover that? I see no such commands on UI or in Help.

Hello, chrisjj

Unfortunately when you have an application as complicated as this, not everything can be made immediately obvious. The amount of work that would need to go into making tutorial popups which the vast majority of our clients would disable as soon as possible to explain the numerous "not obvious" of the software would be enormous. Our Dev team also dislikes popups and tries to avoid them, which would further complicate this. In the end, it is something that you would discover accidentally through use of the software.

I wasn't expecting immediately obvious. Surely no-one familiar with this program would.

I thought the whole point of user documentation was to obviate that need.

Perhaps add this funtion to Help?

Hello, chrisjj

I will pass the suggestion on to our writers to see if that can further clarify this in the manuals, certainly!

You can't further clarify something that's completely missing it.

Try just adding it.
