When specifying end of polyline or polygon comment by selecting Complete from context menu, line temporarily disappears

Post by rakunavi »

=== UPDATE ===================================================================
The issue reported below has been resolved in Ver 10.6.0 build 396.
I appreciate all the hard work and efforts of the support and development team.
==============================================================================

Hello all,

Introduction

  • There are two ways to specify the endpoint of a polyline or polygon: by double-clicking on it or by selecting "Complete" from the context menu.

If the Shift key is used to limit the angle, there was a problem until build 392 where double-clicking would add an extra control point at the end that was not intended, as shown in the video below (see this post for details).

    • Introduction.gif
So many users probably still use the context menu to specify the endpoints. However, I have noticed that in some scenarios, the line temporarily disappears when trying to specify the endpoint on a stamp using the context menu.
Verification

  • The following instructions assume, as usual, that a series of scenarios are operated in sequence, based on the default settings for Windows and PDF-XChange Editor. In each scenario, the verification details are almost identical. For each of the following three cases, a polyline and a polygon are drawn, and the endpoint is specified by a context menu.

    • Case 1 (Left side) : specify the endpoint where there is nothing on the background
    • Case 2 (Center) : specify the endpoint on the comment object
    • Case 3 (Right side) : specify the endpoint on the stamp object

Scenario 1

  • Draw polylines and polygons with default settings in Windows and PDF-XChange Editor. Specifically, the following two assumptions are made (both are default settings)

    • The "Fade or Slide menus into view" option is enabled in the Visual Effects settings of the Performance Options dialog in Windows.
    • Exclusive mode for the Polyline and Polygon tools is disabled in the PDF-XChange Editor.
    • figure1.png
As shown in the video, the line disappears temporarily when the context menu is displayed only when the endpoint is specified on the stamp object on the right side.

    • Animation1-A.gif
The problem of the line temporarily disappearing can be solved by enabling the exclusive mode as shown in the video below.

    • Animation1-B.gif
Scenario 2

  • Assuming that Exclusive Mode is enabled for each tool according to Scenario 1, we now perform the same verification with the angle constrained by the Shift key. As before, the line temporarily disappears when the context menu is displayed, but only when the endpoint is specified on the stamp object on the right.

    • Animation2-A.gif
The problem with the line temporarily disappearing in Scenario 2 can be resolved by disabling the "Fade or Slide menus into view" option in the Windows Visual Effects settings shown earlier.

Given the problems with the drop-down list not closing reported in the following topic, it might be a good idea to turn it off when using PDF-XChange Editor.

    • Clicking the [V] button on the far right of the drop-down list may not close the list
      viewtopic.php?t=40895
Scenario 3

  • Now we will perform the verification without angle constraints by returning the exclusive mode of each tool to disabled. Unlike in Scenario 1, the line does not disappear just by displaying the context menu when the endpoint is specified on the right stamp object.

However, if you move the mouse far outside of the context menu, the line somehow disappears temporarily, as before. The reason for moving the mouse cursor up and down in the video is to move the mouse cursor to outside of the context menu so that the line disappears.

    • figure3.png
The problem occurs only in the case of the right side, where the operation is performed on the stamp, so it does not make sense with respect to the left side and the center, but the same operation is performed for comparison.

Final Thoughts

  • In any scenario, polyline and polygon comments will display correctly when endpoints are specified over comments. Since stamps are supposed to be handled similarly to comments, it seems to me that the behavior should be the same regardless of whether the endpoint is specified over a comment or a stamp.

The problem can be avoided by specifying the end of the line with a double-click operation, and I am sure that this is a very minor issue since it is a temporary display problem, but I hope it will be of some help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Re: When specifying end of polyline or polygon comment by selecting Complete from context menu, line temporarily disappe  SOLVED

Post by Daniel - PDF-XChange »

Hello, rakunavi

Scenario 1 and 2 are the same scenario, because you have exclusive mode enabled, holding Shift to enable angle snapping also temporarily disables exclusive mode. If you have exclusive mode disabled, and hold shift (temporarily enabling it), the issue does not occur.
Scenario 3 also seems to be related to exclusive mode and the stamp, specifically, the line only disappears if exclusive mode is disabled, and you move the mouse overtop of an existing stamp.. Very strange indeed.

Both of these cases will be forwarded to the Dev team for review, and hopefully can be resolved in time.
