The 'Highlight Destination' feature doesn't work for actions with the top-left corner of the page as the destination

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

In build 405, the ‘Highlight Destination’ feature was added. However, I noticed that when the destination is set to the top-left corner of the page using X/Y coordinates, the highlight does not appear if the Appearance is set to the default Circle. It seems the highlighting process is likely being performed internally, but the diameter of the highlight circle is zero, effectively making it invisible. Additionally, I found that the diameter of the highlight circle increases proportionally to the display scaling. Below are the verification results for these two issues.

All bookmarks in the sample file are set on page 1, with the X/Y coordinates indicated in the bookmark name set as the destination.

  • sample.pdf
  1. X: 0 pt / Y: 300 pt
  2. X: 5 pt / Y: 295 pt
  3. X: 10 pt / Y: 290 pt
  4. X: 15 pt / Y: 285 pt
  5. X: 20 pt / Y: 280 pt
  6. X: 25 pt / Y: 275 pt
  7. X: 30 pt / Y: 270 pt
  8. X: 35 pt / Y: 265 pt
  9. X: 40 pt / Y: 260 pt
  10. X: 45 pt / Y: 255 pt
The following three verification videos display the bookmarks in the sample file sequentially from the 10th to the 1st, with the display scaling value set to 100%, 200%, and 300% respectively.

Scaling 100% (Resolution: 1280 x 720)

  • Video1.webm
Scaling 200% (Resolution: 2560 x 1440)

  • Video2.webm
Scaling 300% (Resolution: 3840 x 2160)

  • Video3.webm
Please note that at all display scaling values, the diameter of the highlight circle progressively decreases, eventually reaching zero when displaying the first bookmark. Generally, bookmarks are most often set at the top-left of the page, and they display correctly with other Appearance settings. Therefore, personally, I don't believe this is the behavior the developer intended.

Also, as mentioned at the beginning, please note that as the display scaling value increases, the diameter of the highlight circle becomes larger. While I've frequently reported on display scaling values, all previous cases showed objects becoming smaller as the scaling value increased. In contrast, the trend of circles appearing smaller as the scaling value increases differs from previous issues.

I've wanted this feature for a long time, so I'm thrilled it's been added in the new build. Currently, the ‘Highlight Destination’ feature only works for GoTo actions and not for GoToR actions, but I hope that someday it will also work for links and bookmarks to other documents.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
rakunavi
