Currently, to navigate to a page using the mouse and the Thumbnail pane, the user must hover the cursor directly over the page thumbnail and click. If the cursor isn't over the page thumbnail, the navigation won't occur. This isn't a problem in most situations, as the page thumbnail takes up most of the tile's area. But if the page aspect ratio is large enough, it can become annoying to be able to quickly switch to a page. Please watch a video demonstrating this situation:

As you can see, even when trying to hit the thumbnail of a narrow page, it doesn’t work the first time. Moreover, even the page title isn't a clickable area for changing the current page.

The solution I see is to increase the active area to the size of the tile. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's exactly how Adobe Acrobat behaves. If you see a significant number of users who absolutely need to retain the current functionality—saving the current page while simultaneously selecting one or more pages—you could provide modifier keys for them that allow them to click tiles without switching the current page. Of course, they do not conflict with the future functionality of selecting page ranges.

Re: [UX & Usability] Thumbnail pane / Increase the active page switching area SOLVED
Hello, Jensen Head
I do have to ask... is there a common situation where you would have a page that has an aspect ratio more extreme than 40:1? At a 40:1 ratio or anything less extreme, the page area seems to be quite easily clickable as is. (in testing, even at a 60:1 ratio it wasn't too difficult, though indeed there was the occasional trouble...
I cannot personally fathom a scenario when one would have a single page at such an extreme ratio that this would realistically be a problem, nor a time when someone would want to use the thumbnails pane to navigate via the thumbnails pane when you cannot see the page content.
I will of course pass this along for consideration, but I am vocalizing here the reasons that I do not believe it will be given a high priority preemptively. Perhaps I will be wrong and the Dev team will focus on this more heavily than I expect.
