Problems with Changing Default Text Format

Post by missykitty7 »

Hi,

I have a few problems with the PDF X-change tools.

I've recently moved from Foxit Reader to PDF X-change (as Foxit Reader just doesn't support my PDFs fast enough). Now a few things I've noticed that were great on Foxit Reader, are not so great for PDF X-change.

1. Callout Tool
- when I "callout", I need to click and drag to make a box. This is not too great when you are annotating during lectures and want to get your points down quickly. I suggest a kind of "default callout box" which you can then modify as you wish later, much like that of Foxit Reader. (small point)

A more important problem is about the default text
2. The "make default" part of the text properties doesn't seem to save properly. I'm always back at the default which is.. Arial, Font 12, Black (but it is actually red for some strange reason, the colour of my font seems to always mirror the colour of my box colour ... eg. if I turn my box to green, my default text will also be green regardless of what settings I have previously made). However, when I right click on my selected text and "apply default text formatting" it changes to the one I want but that is no different form having to do it manually :?

I have the newest version of PDF X-change downloaded, really a great viewer~
To put it bluntly, I am trying to get the best of both worlds~

Kind regards,
Josey

Foxit Reader's callout tool is badly designed. A callout has two properties, the arrow's target and the callout text box position. You don't usually want the text box obscuring the document text, so the text box needs to be dragged into a blank space such as the margins.

The default text properties are not the same as the default text box object properties. Look more carefully at the popup menu. Its the text formatting properties defaults that you need to save.

Hi,

Thanks for replying, I am pretty sure that I have differentiated the two... but I still seem to have the problem~ :?

Perhaps you could elaborate a little more? I am not too sure what I am doing wrong.

EDIT: With regards to the callout tool, I can understand where you are coming from, perhaps if the little arrow danced around the box during the first drag to create the box, it would look a little better. I often get the arrow coming out of the left side of the box a lot, even if I drag the box to the left (about 20% of the time I can actually get it coming out of the right side), and after I have dragged it (still holding on, the arrow doesn't move around the box so essentially I had to get it right on the first try/if I changed my mind before I released the mouse and wanted to put the box somewhere else, it would look weird, all because of the first draw... while Yes I understand this can be fixed manually, it would be better if the problem never happened at all) <-- I'm very sorry if this sounds very convoluted, it is very hard to express my frustration

I honestly feel this is a very big weak point of the callout tool which PDF X-change implements

Hi Josey,

I agree that this could be improved, so as discussed in the other topic, lets see if the guys will change this in ver3 and if not - I will make the feature request as needed.

Best,
Stefan

Could I raise a slightly different question about the application of text formats?

I modified the format for my typewriter text and made it the default.
However, the colour I selected for on-screen visibility is a bright red which becomes a shade of grey when printed in black & white.

I tried to change the default text format but found that the text in each individual comment has to be selected separately before it can be re-formatted.

Currently the text format cannot be changed for a Comment selected in the Comments List. Could I suggest the following enhancements:
1 provide the ability to select multiple comments (within the Comment List or by mouse selection) to which an action can be applied
2 once selected, enable the format of both the comment and the text to be be modified (through the 'right-click' button menu)

Hi, jcaiken.

2 once selected, enable the format of both the comment and the text to be be modified (through the 'right-click' button menu)
Thanks for your suggestions. We will more improve the commenting process in the new version V3, please wait for new version...

Best
