Error/Crash opening PDF
Hello,
PDF-XChange Editor (Build 515) crashes on opening a file with layers - it closes directly after opening the file without message. Tested on different Computers. The older PDF-XChange Viewer (2.5 Build 308.2) opens correctly.
PDF is created with "MapInfo" which uses own PDF Creator to ensure correct display.
I'm not able to attach the File, it's about 3 MB. Any other way?
Best Regards,
Carsten

In one of the other posts in this forum I red that attachments are limited to 5 MB per file, and that they must either be .PDF or an archive (ZIP, 7z, RAR).

Thanks for the file Carsten,
I managed to reproduce this on my machine, and one of our devs (Victor) is already checking it (as he also reproduced it on his end).

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Hello Carsten,
Thanks for the sample file.
The issue with "Layout_Mapinfo.pdf" seems to be because of a special font used inside that is not embedded in the file - SwitzerlandCondensed. On my machine that font is replaced by AdobeSansMM - in both the Editor and Acrobat Reader (see attached). I suspect that on your machine no suitable substitute font is fount.
Please see if you can force that Mapinfo tool to generate the files with embedded fonts - and the result will be much better.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Hello Will,
I'm using the latest Version 316.1.
Please have a look at the jpg included in my zip, it shows the same file in editor and viewer - there are many differences.
Regards,
Carsten

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Hi Carsten,
I did see that and I'm not seeing the same thing here. Can you please try clearing your system temporary files folder?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/wind ... =windows-7
Please note that you may need to explicitly select the Temporary Files option (different from Temporary Internet Files), as it is not always selected by default.
Cheers,

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Hi Will,
tested again on different computers and found the reason.
The original File contains the font "Switzerland Condensed". PDF was created without implementing the font.
Here is the error in Editor: when opening on a PC with installed Font, PDF-XChange Editor doesn't display the text. XChange Viewer does - as you can see in the attached jpg.
If the font isn't installed on your PC, the Editor and also the Viewer will choose another font.
Actual workaround: include fonts when generating PDF.
Best Regards,
Carsten

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Yes, I can indeed reproduce the problem.
I downloaded the Switserland Condensed (Regular) truetype font from here:
http://www.fontsner.com/download/73283.html
Once this font has been installed, and then I start PDF-XChange Editor 5.5.316.1, and open Layout_MapInfo.PDF, I do not see most of the labels no more. See print screens in attached ZIP-file.
Best regards.

Re: Error/Crash opening PDF
Hi All,
I can confirm that indeed after installing the font from Willy's link - the text disappeared in my Editor as well.
The ticket for this is:
#3465: Editor 316.1: Text in a file does not display when the font used inside IS installed.
Regards,
Stefan
